The Madding Crowd

What "art" and the "artworld" looks like from the perspective of "artists" from Sydney's Inner West's "art scene".
-by "Alex Wisser" and "Georgie Pollard"

  • Here she is, Marlene Sarroff, grinning in front of her work, Disruptive Elements at F49.  Oh, how we laughed that Marlene had hatched an evil plan to turn the world black.  It was all very funny, until we got home……. alone…….. and it was dark……..

  • Damnit Brendan Penzer can hang a furking show.  And lets admit it, the man puts on a great party.  Political art and political speakers on the eve of an election.  Who would a thunk it?  (check out the rest of the pictures on facebook)

  • Nicole Eggers in front of her work.  Our first stop of the night was at Chrissie Cotter gallery, a free-to-show council run space in Camperdown. It was a three party night, so we didn’t stay long. After this we went quickly to Breen Space to look at art (never go to an opening to look at art), before returning west to settle in At The Vanishing Point for some proper madness.

  • One day she will need a therapist.  I took this photograph as a form of helpful documentation.  Well, she dragged me out to this opening.  I tried to explain to her that we didn’t know anyone there but she wanted a party.  Despite that, It was an excellent show at First Draft.  The work above Emma’s head was one of the highlights, and the fact that all the books it was made from were self help or otherwise theraputic didn’t hurt the concept behind my happy snap.

  • Non objective artists discuss survival techniques around the open fire at Factory 49.  Their years in the wilderness have honed their instincts and clarified their intent. When civilization falls, they will build a brave new hard edged utopia.  I can see the color fields from here.  Barbara Halnan, Georgie Pollard, Rose McGreevy, Marlene Sarroff.
